Wednesday July 19th

And so begins our adventure to California and back.

It was not the easiest start and planning as the last three days have been a whirlwind of fixing vehicles, running errands and packing in order to be ready to leave at noon.

Nicholas started his morning by sleeping through his alarm and rushing to get out the door to go write his final exam for Religion 25 at Bishop O'Byrne High School! He made it with some time to spare and in one hour somehow managed to get 92% on the exam and 92 for a final overall. He was ecstatic as was his mother and was the kick off to our holiday.

I spent a couple hours getting the van fueled up and ready and loaded up with our bags including all of Krista's stuff so that she only needs a carry-on when she flies to meet us on Friday night.

Headed over to pick up Caroline Austin and Jake and were able to get away by 1 PM.
Headed south on Highway two and had a quick stop in Claresholm at the 7-Eleven for some greasy chicken. Caroline took over and drove all the way to Fernie. It was still 30°C when we got there. There was some smoke in southern Alberta it wasn't too bad. We refuelled the van and grabbed a quick drink at Tim Hortons and we were off and running again!

We made excellent time with very little traffic and made it to the border at 6 PM. After a few minutes of reviewing passports we were on our way south through Idaho. We passed Sandpointe, Couer d,Alene,Silverwood theme park and then turned west and headed into Spokane.

Traffic is certainly a lot busier but we found our exit and our hotel with great ease. We got the boys unpacked and got them into the pool while we got settled. We ordered some pizza and went and picked it up and after a couple of beverages called it a night at 10 PM local time which was 11 PM Alberta time. Tomorrow would be an easy day with a nice sleep in as we are going to do some things in the Spokane area before heading south to Oregon.
Excellent first day and a great way to kick off our two-week adventure on the road!
