Sunday July 31st

Sunday July 31st

Travel day today! We got up at 8 and were on the road for 9 to the airport. We had the chubby guy from Star Taxi come get us as the price was right though the service was brutal. Guy was on his phone from the moment he arrived til we got to the airport.
We checked in and found Amanda, Toni and Cousin Nicola. They had later flights but were able to join us on standby.
Our plane was an actual jet and held 50 people. We were on Kauai after 30 minutes.

We met Fraser and Jessica who came to greet us and bring people to the resort. We were able to pawn off the kids on Fraser while Krista and I headed off to Avis to get our rental car. It took FOREVER but got a triple upgrade after some haggling and got a nice full size Chevy Impala loaded with all the bells and whistles for the same price as our super crappy sub-compact we had rented.

We headed to Costco and met Jess/Toni/Nicola and spent a combined $700 on food/booze. Prices were phenomenal and we were all starving and bought far too much of both food and drink.
24 Corona for $25? 1.75l of Bacardi Gold for $20? This was going to be a rough week!

I lined up for food and grabbed a sausage and a chicken caesar salad which we devoured in line for the till. We jumped in our screaming hot leather car and 20 minutes later arrived in beautiful Poipu on the southern shore of Kauai.
You always hear about the North Shore being the surfers paradise but that is only in the winter. In summer, it's the south shores that get the bulk of the trade winds and the waves are still massive.

We got checked in to our condo and were very pleased to find all the amenities we needed. We changed into swimsuits and hit the ocean. It was a fantastic afternoon.
We all met up around 530 for the first night meet/greet and had BBQ steak and veggies. The sun set very quickly and it was pitch black by 8 pm. We watched a bit of tv in our condo and got the kids to sleep before 10. It had been a pretty full day and we were eager to call it a night as well.
